ABOUT

STUART TEEKASINGH

Creation has been a baseline narrative in my life ever since my childhood. After being acknowledged for my artistic ability very early from my teachers and peers, I continued to draw and paint my whole adolescent life as a form of escapism and much needed expression.

I began getting tattooed in highschool and the gravity of the industry held my attention unlike anything I had experienced before. At that time, the tattoo industry was still very much a counter culture, a place where the unconventional and the outcasts gathered in solidarity, & It immediatly felt like home. When I reflect back, I believe I knew then that my life would inevitably be intertwined with this age old tradition. I began an art practise in a new medium, the human canvas of skin.

After completing my apprenticeship, I moved to Vancouver where I attended the Art Institute of Vancouver for Applied and Graphic design. Upon completion I worked as a freelance designer while creating a collection of paintings that resulted in my first solo show “Spiteful Chant”. The money made at that show allowed me to travel Europe before eventually ending up back in calgary where I took the position of Lead Designer at a local design firm. Since then I have worked as a freelance designer/director in various creative industries such as Fine Arts, Design, Photography, Videography, Music, and Fashion, all while maintaining a consistent practise in tattooing.

I have since traveled and worked all over Canada, The USA, and Europe, and I am grateful to have been blessed with experiences and connections working beside some of whom I consider the most talented and dedicated artists and creatives. The cumulation of my travels, studies, and experiences have turned me into the artist I am today.

As of 2022 I will have opened a new multidisciplinary creative space “The Burrow” located downtown calgary in the design district. It is a private studio housing the creation of various mediums of digital and physical art housing resident artists and guests from all over the world spanning various expertise and industries. I have a deep interest in continuing to push my abilities and creative output into as many various mediums as possible with a keen desire for collaboration with other artists, local business’s and corporate entities alike.
